Mat Mailandt is a comedy powerhouse, always ready to light up the stage and the classroom with his infectious energy and wit! Based out of Toronto, Ontario, Mat is a professional actor and comedian who teaches comedy at Second City and as an independent instructor across the globe. He began his career in arts education early as the Artistic Director of Calgary Young People’s Theatre from 2005 to 2010 and as a co-founder of the Valhalla School of Theatre Arts in New Denver, BC son thereafter.
Mat’s passion for theatre education shines through in his impressive track record, having directed over 20 professional theatre productions for young audiences and taught thousands of students across North America and Europe. He even founded and ran the Calgary High School Theatresports Championship from 2011-13, adding another feather to his already well-decorated cap. In 2012, Mat launched Think Fast to spread his unique brand of comedy education across Canada. You’ve probably seen him on TV, notably as Todd in the viral Leon’s campaign, or heard him on his award-winning podcast “Bites and Bits.” Recently, Mat has been sharing his comedic insights and educational expertise through keynote speeches and workshops for educators. Notably, he has presented at the last two years of the Calgary Board of Education’s Teachers’ Convention and delivered a keynote speech at the 50th Anniversary of the Calgary Board of Education’s French Immersion program. Next, you can catch him delivering the closing keynote at the 2025 Congrès national en immersion française (ACPI) at the Fairmont Banff Springs Hotel on November 15th. Mat’s engaging and humorous presentations continue to inspire educators and bring a fresh perspective to the world of teaching and learning.
